Remembering the Children's Crusade in Birmingham, AL

53 years ago this week, thousands of school age children joined the non-violent direct action of the civil rights campaign in Birmingham, AL. May 2-5 became known as the Children's Crusade. The children were arrested along with other protestors. When the jails were filled, police dogs and fire hoses were used to try to disperse the crowds. Images of the brutal treatment of the children touched the conscience of the nation and helped to move the cause of civil rights forward. Watch the video below to see images and hear testimonies from that time that changed our nation. Thank God for the witness of those children in 1963 and for all who stand up for justice in our time.
