On Sunday August 28, I attended a very special event at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in Southeast Washington, DC. “The Revival: Time for a Moral Revolution of Values” is a national tour to redefine morality in American politics and challenge leaders of faith and moral courage to be more vocally opposed to harmful policies that disproportionately impact the poor, people who are ill, children, immigrants, communities of color, and religious minorities. The Revival is co-led by the Rev. Dr. James A. Forbes and the Rev. Dr. William J, Barber II architect of the historic Moral Monday Movement in North Carolina. The revival service also included inspirational music from the civil rights movement as well as testimonies from local people who were directly impacted by unjust policies and structures. It was very appropriate that the service in DC was held on the 53rd anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963 in which Dr. King gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Watch the video below to learn more about this way to pursue the dream in our day. You can also learn more at www.moralrevival.org.
